Five Dynasties were an important period in the history of Chinese landscape paintings. On the basis of inheriting the tradition of Sui and Tang Dynasties, the landscapists in this period bravely created, explored new plaiting techniques. With their great efforts, the landscapists finally constructed the original painting theory, and developed into their unique painting style. Their achievements were believed as a peak at that time which had a deep influence on landscape painting in the future, especially on that in two Song dynasties. Taking Jing Hao's Bijifa and his landscape painting as a representative, this paper explores the development of landscape painting in Five Dynasties from the aspects of the theory, technique evolution, and practice, etc. aiming at reminding the academic circle to pay more attention to and inherit it more rigorously.
