China's oil paintings boast a history of over a century, and landscape oil paintings, with a rich variety of creative practice and theoretical exploration, occupy an important position in the development of oil paintings in China. Looking back on landscape paintings development in China, I found that many artists have incorporated traditional Chinese culture, consciously or subconsciously, into their landscape oil paintings, which showing more and more "Yixiang (images vs meaning)". Furthermore, this trend becomes increasingly evident in recent years, warranting in-depth study. In fact, as early as 1950s and 1960s, there were heated discussions on the localization of oil paintings. In recent years, the concept of "Yixiang oil paintings" was proposed to advocate the combination of oil paintings and China's splendid traditional culture and show peoples'truthfulness to the world, nature, and ourselves. The "Yixiang" trend, emerged in Chinese landscape oil paintings, is mainly due to the influence of Chinese traditional culture which renders artists to use "images" to express "meaning" and integrate "images" with "meaning" in oil paintings. The integration of Chinese landscape oil paintings with "Yixiang" culture paves the way for oil paintings' development in China, playing a vital role in boosting China's contemporary oil paintings.
