This research focuses on three topics related to undergraduates'empathy:the characteristics of undergraduates'empathy, their emotional intelligence and their interpersonal self-efficacy; the relationship of the previous three aspects; and the effect of empathy intervention conducted to undergraduates. Two studies are implemented in the research. Study 1 is by surveying 655 participants from three universities (Zhejiang Normal University, Ningbo University and Zhejiang A & F University) to study the current situation and the relationship of undergraduates' empathy, their emotional intelligence and their interpersonal self-efficacy. Study 2 is on the empathy intervention:dividing randomly the 64 participants from Jinhua Polytechnic into the intervention group and the control group. The intervention is conducted and studied to the 32 participants in the intervention group. The main results of the study were as followed:1. The undergraduates are mostly in good situation in terms of empathy, emotional intelligence and interpersonal self-efficacy. Obvious is the sex discrepancy, family structure discrepancy and grade discrepancy among the empathy ability of the undergraduates. There is no discrepancy as to their different majors and origin places. There is obvious sex discrepancy among the emotional intelligences of undergraduates while the discrepancies in the family structure, major, grade, and origin place are not obvious. The same thing happens to the interpersonal self-efficacy.2. The positive correlation is easily observed between the undergraduates' empathy ability and their emotional intelligence as well with the interpersonal self-efficacy. The higher one's empathy ability is, the better his or her emotional intelligence and the interpersonal self-efficacy are.3. Empathy intervention could notably improve the undergraduates'empathy ability, thus obviously better trend of emotional intelligence and the interpersonal self-efficacy follow.
