This essay makes a survey of the linguistic materials of Mahāsāmghika-vinaya which is a Chinese Buddhist Scripture in the East Jin Dynasty. We discuss the phenomenon of semantic orientation based on the thorough investigation and description of the adverbs of the book. And then, we make an analysis of the monosyllabic adverbs and disyllabic adverbs according to the examples. We also discuss the value of the corpus of the book from the aspect of the adverbs. Ultimately, we make a research of the lexicalization and inverse morphemes words focusing on two cases.According to the conclusion of the research, the system of the adverbs of the book is complete. The phenomena that the polymerization of the monosyllabic adverbs and disyllable evolution are outstanding. It shows the inheritance of the adverbs of the ancient Chinese. The disyllabic adverbs develop through synonym, parasynonym and adding suffix. The adverbs of this book have many features, such as the instability of word formation, the singularity of semantic orientation and comparatively strong orality. What's more, the appearance of the suffixes of the adverbs, such as"Er","Fu"and"Zi", indicates the coherence of the language usage between the book and Chinese inscriptions. All of the above can reflect the special value of the corpus of the book as a Chinese Buddhist Scripture. The research method of this essay is combing description and explanation, quantificational statistic and qualitatively analysis, synchronous description and diachrony.
