Zamyatin's novel We was completed in 1920, but it was forbidden to be published until 1988 because of Zamyatin's artistic point of view which conflicted with mainstream literature. Since then, the novel was wildly concerned by readers and critics.Zamyatin believes that Russian literature is occupied by the achievements of Realism led by Leo Tolstoy and Symbolism led by Blok, which is difficult to exceed. Therefore, he advocates literature should be divorced from the way of Realism and Symbolism, and then returns to reality. He insists Russian literature since 1920s should be renovated by integrated New Realism, which contains the characteristics of Realism and Symbolism, rather than Symbolism. We adopts satire, absurdity and fantasy together is such a classic reflection of Zamyatin's New Realism. Using artistic extreme anti-rationalism and scientific thought to create is the significant characteristic of We. The author places praise into criticize while narrates non-rationally. Literature way of diary and formation of entropy and anti-entropy shows his non-rational ideas perfectly. To conclude, this thesis explores characteristics of Zamyatin's New Realism and its accomplishment in the novel, and then summarizes the author's traditional methods and techniques of arts.
