Female、Neorealism And Black Humor

This paper analyzes films directed by Ningying from three aspects as following:The first part illustrates an image of female developed in her movie under the framework of feminism and film theories.The depiction of female image with faded and absent traditional male roles demonstrates Ningying’s view of female.Ningying is adept in creating women who pursue independence and freedom.Their self-expression is achieved through free choice concerning marriage.They endeavor to illustrate the process of fighting for their rights through three different stages.The second part analyzes the new realism narrative technique used in Ningying’s films and television programs.Neorealism originates from Italy.Ningying’s pursuit of truth,theories of flims learned in Italy,together with the experience of filming The Last Emperor with Bertolucci enables her to adopt new realism narrative technique in her works.Her works record the true state of life as well as “anti-dramatization” casual life through reliable techniques of expression based on new realism theory of film.The third part analyzes the black humor laughing with tears in Ningying’s film works.Although only Somebody Just Loves Me and Romance Out Of The Blue are considered as comedies among nine movies directed on her own and released to the public,the humorous effect is fully embodied in her works.Ningying’s style of humor is kind of tearful black humor characterized by grotesque and exaggerated description as well as humorous language,which shows her pondering over life.
