Qiu Feng-jia is a famous patriot, poet and educator, renowned for his great contribution. The academic have focused on him from several aspects, such as his merits and demerits of protecting Taiwan and anti-Japanese, the thought of recapture of Taiwan and unification of China, his educational philosophy and practice, the attitude to bourgeois reformers and revolutionary, the relationship between Hakka culture and himself, the situation of his anticipation in the poetic revolution and his status in this campaign, his poetic viewpoint and achievement in literature, his influence to Taiwan poetics, etc. However, there are few researchers relying on the method of image analysis to interpret Qiu's poems and inspect his thoughts and feelings.Mr. Ding Xu-hui form Taiwan Fooyin University published a paper to investigate in Qiu's mood after him returned back to China mainland form Taiwan because of the failure of anti-Japanese through analysis of"sea and ocean"images in Qiu's poems. The achievement of Ding contributed a lot to study of Qiu's poetry, but his conclusion to some extant is not entirely correct. In his point, the"Sea and Ocean"image mainly refers to Taiwan. But this thesis believes that the image also implies the ocean directly, makes a general reference to Chinese territorial seas and insinuates change irregularly of era apart from Ding's view. Only combining with the"War","Hermit","Astronomy","Mountain"and other images, the content of"Sea and Ocean"image can be revealed profoundly and comprehensively. Ding pointed out that Qiu expressed his utopian ideal of"Taiwan Independence"through heroic images such as"King of Fuyu","Cacique of Ocean","Prince of South Yue"and"Koxinga"in his poems. This article brings out an opposite conclusion deriving from the historical facts and refutes Ding's view. This thesis firmly believes that Qiu always maintained China's reunification, and the heroic images indicating Qiu's remarkable admiration to talented persons repose his patriotic emotion and desire of recovering Taiwan.
