The love and marriage between human being and monster is worldwide story type, which including the marriage between human being and snake that comprise snake-man with female person and snake-woman with male person. Snake-man and snake-woman story was listed in the folktale types, respectively 433 type and 507C type of the Aarne-Thompson classification system.Snake cultural tradition of the Chinese nation has a long history, meanwhile the love and marriage between human being and snake devil is constantly presented in novel, especially in the evolution of White Snake story, therefore it is very valuable to research the motif of the love and marriage between human being and snake devil in the ancient novel.Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties is the first conscientious era in the history of Chinese literature, the"Madame White Snake eternally yield to Leifeng Pagoda"is the peak of this motif novel which appears in Ming Dynasty, hence the period of this paper research is from Wei, Jin Dynasties to Ming Dynasty.The 24 motif novels of the love and marriage between human being and snake devil from Wei, Jin Dynasties to Ming Dynasty are mainly recorded in"Tai Ping Guang Ji","Yi Jian Zhi","Qing Suo Gao Yi","Yi Jian Xu Zhi","Qing Ping Shan Tang Collection","San Yan","Qing Shi". Among them, the number of snake-man novels is 11 and the snake-woman 13.The motif of love and marriage between human being and snake devil implies a lot of factors such as culture, folklore, religion, social ideological trend, gender literature and so on. These different novels have some similar aspects in their characters, plots and themes. On the basis of these 24 novels and from the angle of motif, this paper will analyze the construction, folklore, religion, gender literature of these motif novels.
