Xu Xianzhong (1493-1569),styled himself Bochen,pen name Changgu, whois a native of Song Jiang prefecture Huating county, is called one of"the four solons ofYunjian", together with He Liangjun, Zhang zhixiang, Dong Yiyang. In JiajingTen-year(1525), Xu was enrolled as a scholar in the provincial examination. Then, heattended the metropolitan examination for six times, and all failed. In JiajingTwentith-year(1541), Xu was elected as official by the Ministry of Rites, and served asthe county magistrate of Fenghua. Three years later, Xu Resigned from Office andreturned home. Later, he moved his home to settle in Wuxing, and lived there till the endof his life. Therefore, Xu is called"the Inquilinism of Wuxing".Neither celebrated chancellor,nor a member of nobility, Xu made friends with manyliterates: with He Liangjun, HeLiangfu and He Liangzuo, who were siblings, Xumaintained intimate relationship, with Mo Ruzhong, Feng En, they were bosom friends.Three years of taking office, Xu have made certain political achievements. After hemoved his family to Wuxing, xu was close with the member of"Xian shan YilaoShe".Of the abundant works during his life-time, the ones on literary theory, the reviewof Tang Poetry inherited the"Si Tang"of Gaobing, and he also made the claim of"San Bian", which exerts great influence on the later generations.In accordance with Xu's poem collection of Chang Gu Ji and other relatedliterature such as the collection of his friends and various local chronicles, thischronicle biography made the textual research of the author.
