Investigation and research on Chinese language teaching of the Confucius Institute of Irkutsk State University is taken according to the related theories of Chinese language teaching for foreigners and educational psychology. Questionnaire method is the main way of research. Detailed report is formed about development and state of Chinese teaching of Irkutsk Confucius Institute. Research is involved in four important elements-teachers, students, contents and environment of teaching. The conclusion is showed as follows: (1) courses of the Confucius Institute is based on general Chinese and development of special Chinese is slow. Basic and primary classes are far more than intermediate and advanced classes. Measures should be taken to minimize leakage of learners.(2) Courses should be based on requirements of learners. Hot courses such as spoken Chinese and Chinese characters is proposed .(3)Chinese teaching materials are characterized by simple contents which is close to life, comments in Russian and suitability for short-time learning. Basically speaking, teaching materials meet the need of learners. (4)The Confucius Institute has a team of highly educated and capable teachers. As to research of cultural adaptability of Chinese teachers, the fact is that leaving longer, stronger teachers adapted to local culture. (5) In the Confucius Institute, college students and high school students are accounted for nearly 70%. Motivations of learners are varied. Both practical instrumental motivations and integrative motivations are concluded. Integrative motivations are majored.Varied methods should be used in teaching to stimulate learners to produce integrative motivations. (6)Class of the Confucius Institute is characterized by excessive use of Russian, which should be restricted.Training courses are necessary to teach teachers how to explain grammer and words by Chinese. (7) Geographically, the Confucius Institute is far away from the center of the city and traffic is inconvenient and this will restrict development of the Confucius Institute. Classrooms are decorated with Chinese characteristics and successfully supplies for learners environment of Chinese culture. The Confucius Institute is equipped with advanced multimedia devices, but till now true multi-media teaching has not be carried out. Teachers should accept training courses of how to make courseware to carry out Chinese teaching based on multi-media. (8) The majority of learners hope to take part in HSK exam. HSK exam and correspondent counseling classes are supposed to be main business for the Confucius Institute.
