The Chinese Deny Temperament Modal Adverbs Research

Negative modal adverbs are unique in the Chinese adverbs categories: They can convey the modal while different from traditional sense of the modal adverbs in Chinese academic; They have a negative function while on the logical premise of the affirmation of proposition; Their two basic meanings are completely opposite from each other while can transform from each other; The number of all members is no more than twenty while thousands of years' history. On the point of exploring the track of notional words functionalization, this paper is to systematicly study characteristics of negative modal adverbs in the three planes of semantics, pragmatics and grammar, and try to establish the secondery class of negative modal adverbs. First, to define the concept of negative modal adverbs and introduce the characteristics in aspects of such as the semantic elements and negative modality. Second,through the analysis of concrete examples, to clarify the track of each member's notional words functionalization and then analyse the differences and similarities, stressing from the angle of semantics exploring the elements and negative tendency that promote the steady development of the negative modal adverbs. Last, to discuss the current situation of the negative modal adverbs in modern Chinese with taking the typical member of "Bai" for example and forecasting the development tendency of them in the future, referring on the situation of members'track of notional functionalization and their disappearence.
