Research To Women Characters And Their Clothing Description In Yeom Sangseop's Novels

The aim of this paper is to discuss women characters and their clothing description in Yeom SangSeop's early works who is the Korean writer of modern realism. It has academic significance to study culture characteristics of creation of his novels and life, consciousness, thinking and social status of modern Korean women.Chapter One discusses purpose and significance of this topic. Then study about relevant research results to indicate that study to women characters in Yeom SangSeop's novels achived great results, however, the research to classification of female, their life, consciousness, thinking and social status is not enough. The study area about female characters in modern society is narrow. Therefore, it is necessary to discuss the connetion to women characters and their clothing description from the perspective of cultural studies.Chapter Two mainly discusses life, educational situation, consciouness, change to social status of women in and the change to female clothing which changed with consciousness of women. And analyses the relationship to characters and clothing and their clothing description.Chaprter Three mainly discusses the connection to women characters and clothing description. In this chapter, the women characters who appeared in the works are divided into traditional women and modern women. Then modern women are divided into positive women and negative women. Traditional women means whose thinking, consciousness and life style still stay in the feudal area. They are not the highlights in Yeom SangSeop's works, and there is little clothing description about them. And Yeom SangSeop esposed the attitude of mercy to them. The main characters are modern women. Modern women means who are ambitious and fashionable also aaccepted well education and studied abroad. Most of them are with knowledge. They are positive, brave and they persuit free love, at the same time, they are immoral so their chastity is weak. Yeom SangSeop wanted to make them wear dress and keep trendy hairstyle, but these women faced tragedy of life. Some of modern women put on modified hanbok which can make them quiet and normal. They also accepted good education and their mind is open, but healthy. They are homemade and know how to drasp their fate. This kind of women can be called dream lover of Yeom SangSeop. He devoted to create these women characters. In most of his works, these women made their dream come true and usher their happy life.From comparing, the aim to this paper is point out Yeom SangSeop's cultural awareness and evaluation to traditional women and modern women and find out the reason. Then learn about social cultural significance and limitation to women characters and women clothing in Yeom SangSeop's works.Finally, this paper points out that there is cultural connection to description of women characters and clothing in Yeom SangSeop's early works. And it has cultural significance to clear that how Korean women lived in transtion from a feudal society into a modern society, and their social status, thinking, awareness, values and life attitude.
