| Political speeches are not primarily prosperous because they are correct or true, instead, it may be more dependent on how valid the arguments seem. The way in which strategies of words used in political speeches can influence the access of words to human mind and impose certain moral or ethical values on people. In the internal lexicon, some words are easier to be retrieved than others. The words which are more accessible can make a sentence or phrase "catchy", or more memorable. In the thesis, the following lexical strategies are analyzed:word choices, metaphors, pronouns, collocation and euphemisms. The analyzing method is to locate expressions in lexical choices made to convey certain values. And this analysis is guided by previous studies, within the frame of lexical access. After an analysis, the author finds that the frequent use of vaguely defined pronouns we. common words family, and authoritative words truth can enforce the persuasion of political speech. And the study also provides the way to choose words being persuasive for political speech. The conclusion drown from the study is that it is important to be aware how politicians use lexical strategies in order to convince the audience. The study might reach a better understanding of language used in the field of politics from a psycholinguistic perspective. |
