Baroque occupies a very important position in the history of Western Music. Music in this period began to present a secularization trend of sacred music, and many new instrumental music species emerged, such as Concerto, Sonata, Chamber music, Partita and Canzone. Baroque also witnessed the maturity and rapid development of string music. In this period, from manufacture to creation concept, Italian violin developed greatly, which laid a foundation for violin to become a solo instrument in the music history. Composers of different phases and genres contributed enormously to the works library of violin with great enthusiasms. The representative composer of this period is Arcangelo Corelli. As the most influential dedicated instrument composer in Baroque, Corelli's solo violin sonata embodied his greatest achievement in composition. Centuries after they were created, this collection has become an indispensible part of violin performance and teaching. With introduction to the Baroque music history, this thesis briefly gave reference to the development background and composition summary of violin in this period. On this basis, analysis on musical forms, melody and rhythms, tonality structures and improvised parts of music works are made using musicological methods to get a more sophisticated understanding of the work from a theoretical perspective. The humanism and emotionalism style, as well as the historical significance of the composer are summarized.Besides the theoretical exploration of the work, to certain extent, this thesis hopes the history can serve the time being and provide some theoretical foundations for the performers're-creation. Therefore, based on the musicological analysis of the work, this thesis analyzed the essential factors of performance, i.e. the performance posture, technical finesse and improvised parts of music works, and coupled the theory with performance tightly, which has realistic meanings for modern performers to better master this work.
