Whether morality could be taught in the west is an ancient issues ,and it has so far unresolved. But in China's traditional moral education, the moral can be taught was never doubted. Confucius and Socrates are founders of Chinese and western ethical thoughts , after reading them, we can find all these facts. This article attempts to compare Confucius and Socrates' moral education thought, is to get more profound understanding of moral education, thus could provide clues for the effectiveness of moral education..This article will be divided into two parts to explain.With all aspectes of question investigated ,the moral education thought of the Confucius and Socrates are analyzed.. Finally in the basis of the explosion about moral education ideology of cultural roots, theoretical foundation and mode of thinking, we can find the solution about moral education.The first part ,the author points out that the query on moral teaching are mainly from two aspects: moral connotation to understand and the question on the way of questioning. The understanding of the essence of moral are divided into two kinds, one is knowledge, and this knowledge to the innate consist in person, no one complete mastery of this knowledge so morality can not taught, another one is that morality arise from people's emotion and will, emotion is fluctuant and will is people's self-control not from outside teaching, so the moral teachability was denyed.In second part, according to two kinds of query and the age of background Confucius and Socrates live in, respectively from four parts of moral connotation, conditions which practicing morality needs, , the mode of moral cultivation and moral pursuit . This part is mainly to excavate the moral education thoughts of Confucius and Socrates , and the auther is expected to have a clear objective understanding about their moral thought , and to understand the background of its moral education ideology and moral education should combine the groundwork era environment .The third part , By comparativing the thought of Confucius and Socrates from four aspects of the moral connotation, moral cultivation mode, moral teacher quality, moral pursuit and front query ,the author puts forward moral education should combine the era environment and be ware of existence of moral authority concept nd emphasize the relation between students' subjectivity and educators' moral qualities etc.
