NGO Involved In The Ethnic Minority Areas AIDS Prevention Countermeasures

Through the analysis of AIDS prevention and treatment in the ethnic minority areas, the author discovered that NGO played an irreplaceable role in prevention for AIDS. The following are the presentation of NGO's function:Controlling the spread of the disease by way of providing financial and technical support to the infected; Guiding the development of grassroots NGOs in China; Collaborating and expanding the government work on the prevention and treatment on AIDS. However, NGO confronts many problems, such as cooperation lacking, funds shortage, incapacity and lack of social support. Particularly, the supporting condition of the infected needs to be improved and grasping of ethnic minority customs is also an important factor restricted its development. Lack of government support in the law greatly limits the ability of grassroots NGO obtaining funds and activities. Accordingly, policy recommendations are proposed based on the following four aspects:(1) explore the prevention and treatment based on social and cultural experiences and approaches of ethnic minorities;(2) NGO needs to enhance ability to strengthen exchange and cooperation with governments, communities, other NGOs;(3) improve supporting conditions of the infected;(4) establish the NGO union involving AIDS prevention work. In order to help the development of NGO in minority areas, a platform should be established to promote exchanges and contacts between the NGOs in minority areas and realize resources share.
