Objective:Teenagers with fixed orthodontic appliances were gave Preventive periodontal scaling in different period. The GCF-AST and GCF-ALP level and periodontal clinical index were observed to evaluate the effects of different period Preventive periodontal scaling to the health of the periodontal tissues, then to discuss the best cycle of Preventive periodontal scaling during orthodontic treatment. Methods:A total number of 51 patients with fixed orthodontic treatment were selected, 6 excluded for using antibiotics. At last, forty-five adolescent patients were randomly selected in this study and randomly divided into three groups. Three different period preventive periodontal scaling, that are every one month and every three month and every six month which were named A, B and C group respectively, were gave to different group as well as oral health education. The change of the GCF-AST and GCF-ALP level and periodontal clinical index before and at the 1st,3rd,6th and 9th month after orthodontic treatment were observed.11,26,31 and 44 were set as the observed teeth to represent the whole status of subjects' oral.Result:1 Significant difference between before and the 1st month after treatment was found in group A on,as well as group B and C. As for group B, the GCF-AST level at the 3rd month after treatment was significantly higher than the level before treatment, so as the 6th and 9th month after treatment in group C2. The GCF-ALP level at the 3rd month after treatment in group B and the 3rd 6th and 9th month after treatment in group C were significantly higher than the level before treatment.3. The three groups were compared with each other on GCF-AST and GCF-ALP level and PLI and GI at the different observing time. No significant difference was found before treatment and 1st month after treatment (p<0.05). Great difference was found between A and B, C (p<0.05) while there was no significant difference between the latter two groups at 3rd month after treatment. No significant difference between A and B when at the same time both A and B was different from C at 6th and 9th month after treatment.4. The change of PD of the three groups along with time was more or less the same with GCF-AST and GCF-ALP level except the 6th and 9th month after treatment when no significant difference was found among A, B and C. 1. Plaque was removed effectively and risk of gingivitis was decreased when performed periodontal scaling, and the more frequently, the better.2. With good oral health education, it was recommended that patients with fixed orthodontic treatment should receive periodontal scaling every three month to protect periodontal health.3. Combining GCF-AST and GCF-ALP testing with PLI, GI and PD survey can give more exactly information for periodontal status than the later three alone.
