| [OBJECTIVE] This study aims to investigate the feature and related risk factors of self-harm behaviors in adolescents and provide basis for taking effective intervention measures that can improve the level of psychological health and supply the experience for the education from families and schools, even the whole society to prevent adolescents.[METHODS] Based on the convenient sample principle, the investigation was administered to 4176 middle school students from 8 schools of Linyi. All participants completed an anonymous questionnaire, including demographic variables, self-harm behaviors during the past 6 months, Sympton Checklist 90(SCL-90), Adolescent Self-rating Life Events Check-list (ASLEC) and Egma Minnen av Bardndosnauppforstran (EMBU). A total of 3957 questionnaires were reclaimed.The results were analyzed by using descriptive analysis, chi-square test, t test,and multiple factors Logistic regression analysis so on.[RESULTS]1. The incidence rate of self-harm behaviors is 27.60%, and by the reporting rates, the self-harm behaviors form can be sorted as following:self-cutting with fingernails, self-beating intentionally, self-scratch, self-bite, plucking hair, self-incising, head hitting, and self-scald. 2. The self-harm rate of girls was higher than that of boys; the rate of self-harm behaviors of students was higher in urban than in rural areas; the only-child were reported to commit more self-harm behaviors than non-only-child. There was distinct difference in self-harm rate of adolescents between girls and boys, urban adolescents and rural adolescents, and only-child and non-only-child.3. The total incidence rate of self-harm behaviors shows a rising trend accompanying with the decline in academic records.4. The adolescents'self-harm behaviors occurring are closely related to the psychological health status, stressful life events and their parents'parenting styles.5. Logistic regression analyses of the data with statistical difference shows that schoolgirls, urban students, only-child, students with poor academic performance, psychological disorder and life events and adolescents in stern parenting styles or overprotection and over intervention are more prone to self-harm.[CONCLUSION]1. The self-harm rate is high in adolescents.27.6% of the interviewees committed self-harm behaviors in the past half year. Girls, urban students, only-child committed more self-harm behaviors than their counterparts.2. The occurrence of self-harm behaviors in adolescents closely related to the psychological health status, stressful life events and their parents'parenting styles.3. Schoolgirls, living urban area, only child, poor academic performance, psychological disorder and life events and punishment, rejection, overprotection and over intervention of family education style are the risk factors for the adolescents'self-harm behaviors.4. Preventing and reducing the self-harm rate of adolescent depends on the joint efforts of family, school and societal to decrease the occurrence of life events, abstain overprotection and over intervention parenting styles, and improve the adolescents'psychological health status. |
