Objective:The purpose of the study is to examine the clinical outcomes about effectiveness of comprehensive treatment for pelvic inflammatory disease, one of which type is damp-heat syndrome according to Chinese medical syndrome differentiation, comparing with another two therapies, intravenous cefuroxime and metronidazole.Methods:Eighty-five PID damp-heat syndrome patients which were from Taihe hospital were devided into the comprehensive treatment group or western medicine treatment group. there were no statistical difference between both groups in terms of age, body mass index, parity, cigarette smoking, social condtions and contraceptive methods.Treatment group:Chinese Herbs:Tai He Pen Yan Decoction, the decoction was concentrated to 300ml,100ml for oral administration at morning and night,30min after a meal, leaving 100ml aside.TCM retention enema:using 100ml enema of Tai He Pen Yan to retain at least 30 minutes,1 day, menstrual disabled.Intravenous antibiotics:cefuroxime 1.0g in saline solution 100ml,2 times daily; 0.5% intravenous metronidazole 250ml,1 times daily, with 10 d continuous treatment.Control group:Intravenous antibiotics:cefuroxime 1.0g in saline solution 100ml,2 times daily; 0.5% 250ml intravenous metronidazole,2 times daily.10 days continuous treatment.All statistical evaluations were performed with statistical package for the social sciences 13.0(SPSS 13.0).Results:The total effective rate of the treatment group was 93.0%, and control group's was 85.7% With the chi-square statistics, the cure rate of the treatment group was better than the control group (P <0.05). The cure rate of the treatment group was 32.6%, and control group's wasl4.3%. There was no statistical significance between the two groups (P>0.05)The total effective rate of the treatment group and the control group in efficacy of TCM symptoms was 95.3% and 90.5% individually. There was no significant difference between the two groups (P> 0.05). The cure rate of the two groups was 39.5% and 14.3% individually.The two groups had a sinifcant difference (P <0.05).Combination therapy can effectively improve the integrated effect of total score, TCM symptoms score and local signs score, and better than the control group. The two groups had a sinifcant differce (P<0.05).Combination therapy can significantly reduce C-reactive protein, WBC, neutrophil counts. The observation group was better than the other.With the Combination therapy, the pelvic mass was disappearance or decrease after treatment, significantly better than the control group (P<0.05).Conclusion:Combination therapy are effective drugs for Pelvic inflammatory disease. And it can decrease the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) symptoms secore and local signs secoreAnd it also can reduce C-reactive protein, WBC, neutrophil counts, and with safe, reliable.
