Clinical Research On The Efficacy Of Acupuncture Plus Traditional Chinese Medicine Ion-introduction For Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Herniation

ObjectivesThe incidence of herpes zoster rising trend in recent years.It attacks the young and middle-aged people, threatens human health and brings great burden to society and family. The recent domestic researchers have conducted comprehensive and profound study on acupuncture on LIDH, on which good efficacy has been attained. A series of reports shows that acupuncture can reduce the content of algogenic substances in plasma and stimulate the production of the endogenous morphine like substances to analgesia. Meanwhile it can reduce the vascular permeability and attenuate edema of the local nidus to eliminate the aseptic inflammation. On the base of numerous studies, this topic use the meathod of acupuncture plus Traditional Chinese Medicine ion-introduction in treating patients with Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Herniation. To observe the clinic effect of this treatment by contrasting standard of Curative diagnosis, measuring the levels of plasma PGE2,SP,LTB4 of the patients, and evaluating the scores by the short-form of McGill pain questionnaire before and after treatment. To discuss the possible mechanism of this treatment and to provide a reliable clinical guiding principles and application of the treatment of LIDH.Methods 90 cases of patients with LIDH were from Wuhan Integrated TCM and Westernal Medicine Hospital acupuncture clinic or hospitalized. According to treatment sequence, the patients were randomly divided into three groups:group with plus Traditional Chinese Medicine ion-introduction (treatment group), group with acupuncture(control group 1) and group with Traditional Chinese Medicine ion-introduction(control group 2),30 cases in each group,for two weeks'treatment. To observe the clinic effect after treatment. The levels of plasma PGE2,SP,LTB4 were measured before and after treatment. Clinical outcome was evaluated by the short-form of McGill pain questionnaire.Results1. Comparison of comprehensive therapeutic effect:In treatment group 15 cases were cured,11 cases markedly effective,3 cases improved and 1 case ineff icacy, with a total effective rate 96.7%; In control group 1,10 cases were cured,7 cases markedly effective,6 cases improved and 7 case inefficacy, with a total effective rate 76.7%;5 cases were cured,5 cases markedly effective,6 cases improved and 14 case inefficacy, with a total effective rate 53.3% in control group 2. The efficacy of the treatment group was best in the three groups (P<0.05). There was no difference between the two control groups (P>0.05)2. the change of SF-MPQ:The pain of patients was improved in both treatment group and control groups after treatment(t=23.974, 14.862,18.010, P<0.01). The score differences of SF-MPQ in treatment group were significantly better compared with control groups (t=148,12.882,4.318, P<0.01). There was no difference between the two control groups, P>0.05. 3. the change of plasm PGE2:The level of plasma PGE2 reduced after treatment with significance (t=9.721,13.041,9.489, P< 0.01) in three groups. And the change was significantly in treatment group compared with the control groups (F=15.426, P<0.01), which in control group 1 was also significant than control group 2,P<0.01.4. the change of plasma SP:The level of plasma SP reduced after treatment with significance (t=28.919,18.506,11.097, P<0.01). And the change was significant in treatment group compared with the two control groups (t=0.873,17.584,6.931, P<0.01). There was no difference between the two control groups.5. the change of plasma LTB4:The level of plasma LTB4 was no specific change before and after treatment.ConclusionsThe three methods have good therapeutic effect and can reduce the level of plasma PGE2 and SP. While the treatment group (acupuncture plus Traditional Chinese Medicine ion-introduction) in treating LIDH displays better therapeutic effects, remarkly reducing level of plasma PGE2 and SP than one-way method, which deserve to be promotion and utilization.Acupuncture plus Traditional Chinese Medicine ion-introduction can reduce the level of plasma PGE2 and SP, which maybe one of the mechanisms for the treatment of LIDH. In addition, this method gives prominence to the integration of TCM and Westernal Medicine, and is easy to operate, therefore which is deserved widespread application.
