Objective:This paper investigated the expression of CD24 mRNA in colorectal polyps and colorectal caicinoma, discussed the role and clinical significance of CD24 gene in the occurence and development process of carcinogenesis of the colorectal polyps, and provided a theoretical basis for the early diagnosis, treatment and disease condition evaluation.Methods:Taking 61 cases (totally 88 colorectal polyps) removed by polypectomy as research object and 25 cases of the colorectal carcinomas removed by surgical resection as comparision, both groups are collected from Zunyi medical college during July 2010 and November 2010. RT-PCR method was adopted to examine the expression of CD24 mRNA in colorectal polyps and colorectal carcinomas, and analyze the expression of CD24 mRNA with different pathological types of polyps, with or without dysplasia, the type of adenoma, the size, the location, the number of the polyps, the gender and the age of the patients.Results:1.There was a positive correlation between the expression of CD24 mRNA and hyperplastic polyps, juvenile polyps, inflammatory polyps, adenomatous polyps and adenocarcinoma(r=0.490, P<0.05), the average expression of CD24 mRNA in the five groups has statistical significance(F=214.818, P<0.001),the positive rate and average expression of CD24 mRNA had no significant differences among hyperplastic polyps, juvenile polyps and inflammatory polyps(P>0.05),while the positive rate and andaverage expression of CD24 mRNA among the above three,adenomatous polyps,adenocarcinoma and between the adenomatous polyps and adenocarcinoma have statistical significance(p<0.05).2.There was a positive correlation between the expression of CD24 mRNA and polyps with mild dysplasia,polyps with moderate dysplasia,polyps with severe dysplasia and adenocarcinoma(r=0.664, P<0.05).The average expression of CD24 mRNA in the four groups has statistical significance(F=189.635, P<0.001). There was no significant differences in the positive rate and average expression of CD24 mRNA of the groups between polyps with mild dysplasia and polyps with moderate dysplasia,between polyps with moderate dysplasia and polyps with severe hyperplasia(P>0.05),the positive rate of CD24 mRNA had no statistical significance between polyps with severe hyperplasia and adenocarcinoma group(P>0.05),but their average expression of CD24 mRNA had statistical significance(P<0.05).There were significant differences among other groups(P<0.05).3.There was no obvious correlation between the expression of CD24 mRNA and tubular adenoma,tubulovillous adenoma and villous adenoma(r=0.208, P=0.269).The positive rate of CD24 mRNA had no significant differences among the three groups(P>0.05).The average expression of CD24 mRNA in the three groups has statistical significance(F=48.359,.P<0.001).There was no significant difference between the tubular adenoma and tubulovillous adenoma groups(P>0.05),but there were significant differences among villous adenoma and the other two groups(P<0.05).4.There was a positive correlation between the expression of CD24 mRNA and the diameter of polyps of the diameter of less than 1.0cm, between 1.0cm and 1.9cm and greater than or equal to 2.0cm (r=0.325,p<0.05).The average expression of CD24 mRNA in the three groups has statistical significance(F=48.359, P<0.001).The polyps of the diameter of 1.0cm and 1.9cm the positive rate and the average expression of CD24 mRNA had no significant difference(P>0.05).Comparing the polyps of the diameter of less than 1.0cm,between 1.0cm and 1.9cm,between 1.0cm and 1.9cm and greater than or equal to 2.0cm, the positive rate and the average expression of CD24 mRNA had no significant difference(p>0.05).Comparing the two groups with the diameter of less than 1.0cm and not less than 2.0cm, the positive rate and the average expression of CD24 mRNA had statistical significance(P<0.05).5.The average expression of CD24 mRNA in the polyps located in sigmoid colon,rectum and the other parts has statistical significance(F=96.426, P<0.001).Comparing the two groups of the polyps located in sigmoid colon and rectum, the positive rate and the average expression of CD24 mRNA had no significant difference(P>0.05).The polyps in the sigmoid colon and rectum than the other parts, the positive rate and the average expression of CD24 mRNA were significantly increased(P<0.05).6.Between different genders,the positive rate and the average expression of CD24 mRNA had no significant difference(P>0.05).7.Among patients younger or not younger than 40,The positive rate and the average expression of CD24 mRNA had difference(P<0.05).8.There was a positive correlation between the expression of CD24 mRNA and single polyps and multiple polyps(r=0.527, P<0.05).The positive rate and the average expression of CD24 mRNA had statistical significance in single polyps and multiple polyps groups(P<0.05).Conclusion:As the level of non-adenomatous polyps,adenoma and adenocarcinoma increased,CD24 mRNA expression was increasing.The expression of CD24 mRNA was gradually increasing with the sequence of adenoma without hyperplasia, adenoma with mild dysplasia,adenoma with moderate dysplasia,adenoma with severe dysplasia and adenocarcinoma.The CD24 mRNA expression in villous adenoma is higher than tubular adenoma and tubulovillous adenoma.With the size of colorectal polyps gradually increasing, the expression of CD24 mRNA increased. Sigmoid colon and rectum is the predilection sites of colorectal cancer,and the CD24 mRNA expression is also higher than in the other parts.The CD24 mRNA expression in the patients older than 40 is higher than the patients younger than 40.CD24 mRNA expression in multiple polyps is higher than single polyps. CD24 gene has a close relation with the colorectal polyp canceration, which can be used as an important sign of polyp tissues' canceration.
