The thesis includes two sections:literature review and clinical research. The literature review section pertain detailed discussion in hyper lipidemia from western medicine perspective, which includes the definition, category, diagnosis, etc. It also summarizes the advancement of medical treatments and the research direction of lipid-lowering therapy based on major international clinical researches of lipid-lowering therapy in recent years. From traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) perspective, it gives a thorough review of the documents and research that explain the causes, pathogenesis, as well as syndrome differentiation and treatments. The clinical research section discusses the characteristics of Chinese medicine clinical syndrome differentiation of the primary hyperlipidemia among people in their middle age and in their senior years. These characteristics provide clinical evidence not only for Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation, but for the search of effective lowering-lipid Chinese medicines as well.Methods:150 patients appeared to have primary abnormalities in their blood lipids were selected based on "Guidelines in Prevention and Treatment of Abnormal Blood Lipids in Chinese Adults", the western medicine standard in diagnoses; and the diagnosis, inclusive and exclusive standard of Chinese medicine in "The Guidelines of Clinical Research with New Chinese Medicine" Blood tests were given to the 150 subjects. Standard index was used as the reference in blood test results. Interviews were performed in person. Demographic Information, blood test results, and medical history and physical examination obtained from using Chinese medicine four diagnostic methods were recorded. All information mentioned above was used in diagnostic differentiation. The statistic analysis software SPSS11.5 was used in data analysis, and was used for count data. Value P<0.05 was considered statistically significant and Logistic was used for correlation and regression analysis.
