ObjectiveThe Blood Lactic Acid Level is one of the common monitoring indicators of the patients with critical illness. The aid of this study is to discuss the valuement of monitoring the blood lactic acid level in assessing the condition and prognosis of patients with severe head injury.MethodsDivide the 86patients suffering severe head injury into three groups on the basis of Glasgow Coma Scale(GCS), with the precondition that the selected patients have no severe organ disease and other parts of the body do not suffer from severe injury.Arterial blood samples are collected from all of the patients at just the moment of injury happens, the second the third and the seventh day after admission into the hospital as well. Check-ups of the blood lactic acid are conducted from the samples. The observation of the therapeutic effect and the prognosis has been made.ResultsThe 86 patients suffering from severe head injury have higher blood lactic acid of different range. The lower the GCS is, the higher the blood lactic acid is. The blood lactic acid lever of the admitted patients has obvious negative correlation with GCS (P<0.05). The blood lactic acid concentration of the dead group is higher than that of the alive group (P<0.05), and the duration of high blood lactic acid lever of the dead group is longer than that of the alive group. The blood lactic acid lever is positively correlated with the patients'prognosis. Conclusion 1) The blood lactic acid of Patients with severe head injury has increased differently in acute phase. The level of the blood lactic acid can evaluate the severity of the head injury.2) The higher the blood lactic acid is and the longer the duration is, the more severe the injury is and the worse the prognosis is.3) The blood lactic acid monitoring is an important indicator to assess the prognosis of the patients with severe head injury.
