Objective To study the diagnosis and combine modality therapy of painful bladder syndrome/interstitial cystitis(PBS/IC).Methods The clinical date of 16 cases of PBS/IC(all women)were analyzed. Their age ranged from 17 to 65 years, with a mean of 30 years. The course of disease ranged from 6 months to 4 years, with a mean of 28 month. A total of 16 patients indetified as PBS/IC were treat with dietary manipulation, oral drugs, hydrodistension and intravesical perfusion Sodium hyaluronate therapy. The O'Leary-Sant Interstitial Cystitis Symptom Index(ICSI), voiding frequency and the maximum bladder capacity were recoreded before and after the therapy. Results All patients were followed-up for 4-10 months(mean 6 months), 13 patients symptoms disappeared or were significantly relieved,3 patients symptoms were relieved. The ICSI scores reduced from (17.2±2.8) to (8.1±2.2)(P<0.05)after 6 months treatment. The voiding frequency reduced from (18.5±2.5)/d to (10.5±2.4)/d. The maximum bladder capacity increased from (70±15)ml to (260±35)ml(P<0.05).Conclusion Dietary manipulation, oral drug, hydrodistension and intravesical perfusion Sodium hyaluronate therapy may effectively relieve symptoms and improve quality of life in patients with PBS/IC.
