Objective To explore the correlation between color Doppler flow imaging and microvessel density (MVD), expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in patients with gastric carcinoma. Methods All 60 patients of all periods preoperative underwent CDFI for measuring the blood grades of and normal gastric mucosa tissues. Classified the blood grades according to the flow imaging. GE LOGIQ9 and Siemens-C512-type ultrasound instrument with the 3.5C and 7C-type convex vibration probe were applicated (made in the United States), and the probe frequency range was 2.0-10.0MHz. All the patients were detected matutinus and on an empty stomach post 8 hours. The body position was prostration or lateral position. First, we used 2D (2-Dimensional) ultrasound condition to detect the stomach. The parameters were the location, profile, invading depth of gastric carcinoma, and conditions of both distant and lymph nodes metastasis and vascular invasion. Secondly, we used colour Doppler condition to detect the stomach after we got stable section areas to determine the direction of blood flow, the nature of blood flow and the grade of determination. Moderatly tilting and pressing the probe to make the angle between the beam and the vessel in control of 60°or less as far as possible. To ensure the accurace of the data, we must detect both tumor tissues and normal tissues multi-sliced and multi-angled. All the data were measured by the same doctor. MVD and VEGF of corresponding samples were immunohistologically stained and measured after operations. The control groups were adjacent normal gastric tissues. Groups were decided according to the depth of tumor invasion and 2D ultrasound imaging features. Blood grades, MVD and VEGF expression were not only compared between groups, both also with the control groups. Then analyzed the results statistically. Results MVD, VEGF demonstrated ascending tendency with the number increasing of flow imaging and the higher blood grades of gastric carcinoma tissues (P=0.000). The blood grades and MVD value in gastric carcinoma tissues was significantly higher than that in normal (P<0.05) and higher in advanced than that in early stage (P<0.05).The expression of VEGF in advanced gastric carcinoma tissues was higher than that in early stage (P=0.000) but lower than in normal ones (P=0.000). The MVD value in gastric carcinoma was significantly related with the expression of VEGF (P<0.05). The blood grades, MVD and the expression of VEGF were not significant different in normal tissues (P>0.05). Blood grades were closely related to the conditions of lymph nodes metastasis (P=0.000) and vascular invasion (P=0.000). Blood grades and MVD were both related to the size (P<0.05) and invading depth of tumor tissues (P=0.000). The expression of VEGF was related to invading depth (P=0.000) and the conditions of lymph nodes metastasis (P<0.05) but not the size (P>0.05). Conclusion Combination of color Doppler flow imaging and immunohistochemical parameters is useful for evaluating the angiogenesis of gastric carcinoma from different point of view.
