Objective: To investigate the sleep status of 1-month infants (30-day after birth) and explore the associated factors in order to provide evidence for establishing intervention guidance of infants sleep, improving infants sleep and promoting their life quality. Methods: Randomly choose 998 1-month old healthy infants who took a routine medical examination in the department of children health care in Women and Children Healthcare Hospital of Wuhan. Eligible infants'mothers filled the self-designed questionnaire of infant sleep quality to indentify the infants sleep status and associated factors.Results1. Sleep status of 1-month old infants: The average sleep time of 1-month old infants is 17.05 hours per day, which is 1 hour shorter than the recommended time by textbook of child health care. Daytime sleep duration and night sleep duration are 2.95 hours and 3.51 hours respectively, which is similar with the recent domestic findings. Waking up at 6:25 on average and falling asleep late, generally at 21:20. 1 month old infants wake up 2.14 times during night (0:00 to 5:00) on average. Most of the infants wake up 2 times at night and 32.7% of them wake up even more than 2 times. 64.2% of the infants have fixed awakening time and 60.4% of them have fixed bedtime. 51.0% of the infants have both the awakening time and bedtime settled. 56.3% of infants spend more than 30 minutes in falling asleep and 30% of infants are awake over 30 minutes during night. The situation of infants is better after they wake up in the morning: 94.3% of the infants can be self-awakening, 67.5% of them are chirpy or quietly after they wake up. Problems during sleep process are relatively common: most of 1 month old infants have one or two parasomnias. The most common parasomnias are being awakened by slight sound and twitch, which may because of their underdeveloped nervous system. The proportions of snoring and mouth breathing, which have greater impact on sleep, are 19.5% and 27.5% respectively.2. The associated factors of sleep status of 1-month old infantsThe logistic regression analysis performs the related factors of infants sleep status. The results show: The main associated factors of infants sleep status are gestational age of infants, infants gender, infants suffering from a cold, jaundice and diarrhea, infants milk intake, feeding rhythm, feeding frequency and feeding duration, their mode of falling asleep, changing of caregivers at night, preparation of sleep, temperature of bedroom, sleeping alone or with families, working time of parents, parents'bedtime, and their sleep disorders like snoring and etc. Conclusion: The main problems of sleep status of 1 month old infants are insufficient sleep time, lack of regularity sleep/wake time, long duration of falling asleep and night waking, frequent night waking and snoring during sleep. Through the investigation, gestational age of infants, their mode of falling asleep, preparation of sleep, working time of fathers and sleep disorders of parents are found as related factors of infants sleep. This research provides evidence for establishing intervention guidance of infants'sleep, improving infants sleep and promoting their life quality.
