Objective:Implantating radioactive 125I particle is a new technology in recent years. It has become an important treatment abroad, it was mostly used to treat prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer and other disease in china, and it is still at an exploratory stage in applied to control intracranial cancer, the reports were few currently. At the same time, after the radioactive seed implanted, the radiation effects of nuclear to environment is a hot subject, the reports were various,there is no consistent view. Our study is to explore the clinical effect of 125I radiation which embedded around the tumor after the operation of recurrent cerebral glioma and detect the impaction of radiation to environment.Methods:14 patients with recurrent glioma deserved as trial group, thepatholo -gical grade were from grade III to grade IV. We embed 125 I particle around the tumor after the surgery in trial group, and detect CT or MRI in the lth,3th,6th month and 1 year, compute the recurrent time, the survival time and one year survival rate. We use 125I radioactive detector to detect the radiation dose of the patients and their family members at the distance of Ocm,50cm,100cm from the surface of the implanting site,Selected 28 casesdeserved as control group retrospectively. It has the matched age, sex, the same histological grade to the trial group, and do traditional surgical without 125I particles implanted. Compared the time of tumor recurrence, survival time and one-year survival rates in two groups. Analysis the follow-up results and the radiation dose of 125I.Analysed these parameters with t or x2 test.Results:1.8 patients die and 6 patients survive during one year surveyed in trial group.2.Compared with control group, the trial group has longer survival time, significant increases of one year survival rate and no side effect(P<0.05).3.The results of the radiation dose of 125I particles is that the environmental background radiation is 0.2μSv/hr~0.5μSv/hr, at the distance of 0cm,50cm,100cm from the surface of the implanting site, the radiation dose is 319.2μSv/hr~381.4μSv/hr 10μSv/hr~15μSv/hr and 0.2μSv/hr~0.6μSv/hr. In family members, the radiation dose of 125I particles at the distance of 0 cm,50 cm,100 cm from the surface of the implanting site is 1.056mSv, 0.083mSv and 0.028 mSv.Conclusions:The treatment of 125I particle implantation in malignant glioma patients can extended the time of recourrence, prolong the survival time. The dose of 125 I particles was very small at the distance of 50 cm from the surface of the implanting site, 100 cm approached to the natural background level. The pollution of 125 I particles was small to the environment and family members, and there is a safe distance.With the increase of the distance, the dose reduced. Implantation of 125 I particles is an ideal treatment of the glioma, it is worthy to apply in clinic and promote further.
