Object:Through observation over the anti-fatigue effect of Palmulgunja-tang, the thesis is to explore the anti-fatigue mechanism and the optimal compatible doses of the herbal medicine, providing animal test data for the research and development of the anti-fatigue preparations of Traditional Ethnic Korean medicines. Methods:Fifty female mice of Kunming Species,18~22g in Weight, randomly divided into 5 groups, respectively Blank Control Group, Positive Control Group, Palmulgunja-tang Low Dose Group, Medium Dose Group, and High Dose Group. Observe the efficacy of Palmulgunja-tang that affects the Swimming time of mice with weight loading, the LDH activity in mouse serum, as well as the changes in serum BUN and Hepatin(glycogen) content.Result:In comparison with blank control group, Weight loaded Swimming Time of mice of Palmulgunja-tang groups is obviously longer (P<0.05), yet no distinct difference in comparison with positive control group(P<0.05); the mice of Palmulgunja-tang groups (low, medium and high doses) are higher than mice of blank control group in terms of LDH activity and Hepatin(glycogen) content(P<0. Olor P<0.05); the serum BUN contents of the mice of Palmulgunja-tang groups and of Positive Control Group are lower than serum BUN contents of the mice of Blank Control Group, which indicates a significant variance(P<0.05).In comparison with Positive Control Group, groups of mice fed with medium dose and high dose were seen with enhanced LDH activity in serum (P<0.05), where mice of medium dose group seen with decreased content of serum BUN (P<0.05). Mice of dosed groups, in terms of the indices of Swimming Time, LDH, BUN, and Hepatin(glycogen), displayed in an descending order of improvement with Palmulgunja-tang medium dose group on top followed by high dose group, low dose group and positive control group.Conclusion:Palmulgunja-tang can prolong weight loaded swimming time of mice; increasing LDH activity, converting excessive lactic acid produced in the muscles to pyruvic acid; suppressing the production of serum BUN of mice in the course of the heavy workload; and enhancing the level of Hepatin(glycogen) of mice after exercise. Palmulgunja-tang shows distinct anti-fatigue effect, among the Palmulgunja-tang groups, medium dose group is most effective. The mechanism of Palmulgunja-tang is mainly in connection with adjustment of material metabolism, yet the complex action of Palmulgunja-tang pending further discussion.
