Codnopsis nervosa Chipp Nnnf is a plant of the genus Codonopsis of Campanulaceae. "Jingzhu Bencao" has reported that Codonopsis tibetica has two varieties, they are black and white, It is the black variety. Codonopsis nervosa Chipp Nannf is a plant mainly distributes in eastern Tibet, southeastern Qinghai, western Sichuan, northwestern Yunnan, and southeastern Gansu provinces in China, grows on the edge of grassland and hillside brush in overcast from 3500-4500 meters. Its property and flavor is bitter, pungent, unsmooth and cool. The drug which is widely used for diminishing inflammation and turgescence, strengthening the spleen and stomach, invigorating vital energy, has been used in Tibetan medicine to treat the rheumatic arthritis, neuralgia, nerve palsy, scabies gall, leprosy, beriberi, hysteria and so on as the whole plant. To the best of our knowledge, no phytochemical investigation of this plant has previously been undertaken. This paper carried a report on its chemical composition. The volatile oil of flowers of Codnopsis nervosa Chipp Nnnf was extracted by means of water steam distillation, and the chemical constituents were analyzed by GC-MS. Thirty compounds of the volatile oil of the flowers have been identified separately. The main constituents are hexadecanoic acid (32.75%),9,12,15-Octadecadienoic triene aldehyde (10.42%), linolic acid(6.48%), myristic acid (4.05%), mellow olive (2.71%), trans-sec-butyl DADS (2.23%) et al.Nineteen compounds were isolated from Codonopsis nervosa Chipp Nannf. Nineteen of them were identified by spectroscopic methodology (MS,HR-ESI-MS,IR and NMR) and chemical method. They were choline chloride(1), taraxery1-acetate(2), taraxer one(3), taraxer-ol(4), linoleic acid(5), heptacosanic acid(6), p-hydroxybenzoldehyde(7), caffeic acid(8), luteolin(9),3-O-Caffeoylquinic acid methyl ester(10),3-O-Caffeoylquinic acid butyl ester(11),1,3-linolein-2-olein(12),5,7,3',5'-tetrahydroxy-flavanone 7-O-β-D-glucop-yranosie(13), luteolin-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(14),3-O-Caffeoylquinic acid(15), luteolin-7-O-β-D-gentib-ioside(16), lobetyolin(17), tangshenosideVI(18) and luteolin7-O-β-D-gluco-pyranosyl-(1â†'6)-[(6"'-O-caffeoyl)-β-D-glucopyranoside] (19). Compound 19 is a new compound. Compounds 3,5,6,7,9,10,11,12,13,14,15 and 16, a total of 12 compounds were isolated from the plant of Codonopsis first time. Structure type related to alkaloid, triterpene, flavonoid, phenolic acid and lignine for further pharmacological experiments to provide samples.
