Paraixeris pinnatipartita (Makino) Tzvel. belongs to Paraixeris, Compositae. This paper has comprehensively investigated chemical constituents and antibacterial activities of Paraixeris pinnatipartita (Makino) Tzvel. produced in Kunyu Mountain located in Shandong Province for the first time.In this paper, essential oils from roots, stems, leaves and flowers of Paraixeris pinnatipartita (Makino) Tzvel. were extracted by water steam distillation method, respectively. Chemical constituents of essential oils were separated and identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Relative contents of chemical constituents were determined with the peak-area normalization method. Fifteen compounds were identified and were accounted for 68.22612% of total peak areas of total essential oils from roots. Major compounds of essential oils from roots were hexadecanoic acid(2.36%), pentadecanal(9.14%), (E)-3,7,11-trimethyldodeca-1,6,10-trien-3-ol(7.37%). Twelve compounds, representing 88.47%of total essential oils from stems, were structurely identified. Among them, hexadecanoic acid(64.71%), [(1S,5R,6S)-12-ethyl-2-methyl-2,3,4,5,6,7-hexahydro-1H-1,5-methanoazocino[4,3-b ]indol-6-yl] methyl acetate(10.08%) and (14E)-14-octadecenal(3.76%) were main components. Of the thirty-one compounds(68.68%) separated from essential oils from leaves, pentadecanal(42.36%),3,5,11,15-tetramethylhexadec-1-en-3-ol(4.82%) and (9Z,12Z)-octadeca-9,12-dienoic acid had high relative contents. Three compounds, of which pentadecanal(3.39%) had the highest content, were identified and accounted for 4.42% of the total amount of essential oils from flowers. In all, hexadecanoic acid is the main chemical compound of essential oils from Paraixeris pinnatipartita (Makino) Tzvel. and there are differences in varieties and contents of chemical constituents of essential oils from different parts of Paraixeris pinnatipartita (Makino) Tzvel.Chemical constituents in n-butanol extracts from Paraixeris pinnatipartita (Makino) Tzvel. have been isolated by means of silica gel column chromatography, thin layer chromatography, and recrystallization etc. These compounds were analyzed by modern spectroscopy as 1H-NMR,13C-NMR, DEPT and so on. According to the comparison with the data in literature, structures of 12 compounds were identified. They are elucidated as following:β-sitosterol,7a-hydroxysitosterol, p-hydroxybenz-aldehyde,4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde, ethyl4-hydroxybenzoate, taraxer-ol,lupeol,3a-hydroxy-11αH-guaia-4(15),10(14)-dien-12,6a-olide, (E)-2,5-dihydroxy-cinnamic acid, luteolin, luteolin-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, apigenin-7-O-β-D-gluc-opyranoside. These 12 compounds have been isolated from Paraixeris for the first time.Antibacterial activities of different extracts from Paraixeris pinnatipartita (Makino) Tzvel, have been investigated with Oxford Cup method. Experimental results indicate that petroleum ether and chloroform extracts apparently inhibit Bacillus megaterium with minimum inhibition concentrations (MIC) being 35mg/ml,40mg/ml respectively and that n-butanol extracts apparently inhibit Bacillus megaterium and Staphylococcus aureus with minimum inhibition concentrations (MIC) being both 40mg/ml.This paper provides basis for further study on chemical constituents and pharmacological activities of Paraixeris pinnatipartita (Makino) Tzvel.. Also, it provides valuable scientifical evidences and references for development of Paraixeris pinnatipartita (Makino) Tzvel..
