Objective:Through adopting the retrospective case-control study with brain stroke people as the study object, this study was to investigate the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) factors in the cases of post-stroke depression (PSD), and to provide evidence for the prevention and intervention of TCM in PSD.Subjects and methods:First,120 patients of stroke in the cases of convalescence and/or sequelae who had met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were chosen, and then demographic data, past history and stroke cases were recorded. Meanwhile, patients with PSD were selected by Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD) 21 item version and their Chinese medicine syndromes were surveyed to study the relationship between PSD and TCM risk factors. The data was processed and analyzed by SPSS 13.0.Results:1.36 of 120 cases of stroke patients were the patients of PSD and its proportion was 30%; The occurrence of PSD was associated with past history of diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, multiple lesions (≥3 posts), lesions in the left hemisphere, NIHSS points, BI index and the modified Rankin with relevant points (P<0.05).2. The multiple linear regression in the western-relevant factors showed that HAMD depression was associated with NIHSS points, high density lipoprotein, and stroke duration, modified Rankin points, duration of hypertension, total cholesterol, uric acid, duration of atrial fibrillation and triglyceride. There existed the linear regression.3. The occurrence of PSD was influenced by traditional Chinese medicine-related factors. Univariate analysis showed that Qi deficiency, Yin deficiency, liver deficiency, kidney deficiency, phlegm, stasis and liver qi stagnation were major Chinese medicine factors; Logistic regression analysis showed that Qi deficiency, Yin deficiency, phlegm, stasis and liver Qi stagnation had relevanced with its occurrence(P<0.01).4. Logistic regression analysis of TCM and Western medicine elements showed that PSD occurrence was influenced by both TCM and Western medicine related factors, associating with 5 risk factors that Yin deficiency, phlegm, stasis, liver Qi stagnation and NIHSS points (P<0.01).Conclusion:1. PSD was associated with TCM risk factors of stroke.2. Qi deficiency, Yin deficiency, phlegm, stasis and liver Qi stagnation were major risk factors of TCM that affectted the occurrence of PSD.3. The occurrence of PSD was influenced by both TCM and Western medicine risk factors. Yin deficiency, phlegm, stasis, liver Qi stagnation and NIHSS points were the main risk factors in the combination with TCM and Western medicine.
