ObjectiveTo study the clinical signification of ratio of triglycerides to HDL cholesterol in atherosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes.MethodsThe subjects were 196 patients with type 2 diabetes collected in the department of Endocrinology in the First Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University Medical College from October, 2009 to September, 2010. The carotid intima-media thickness(IMT) was the index to reflect the extent of atherosclerosis, and according to IMT it consisted of 92 cases with normal IMT group(IMT≤0.8mm) and 104 cases with thickened IMT group(IMT>0.8mm). Age, sex, duration of disease, body mass index(BMI), systolic blood pressure(SBP), diastolic blood glucose(DBP), glycosylated hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c), total-cholesterol(TC), triglycerides(TC), high density lipoprotein-cholesterol(HDL), low density lipoprotein-cholesterol(LDL), ratio of TG to HDL,blood C peptide level, C-reactive protein were the relative influence factors observed and compared between these two groups. Then analyze the corelation between carotid IMT and serum lipids, and find out the clinical significance from the independent association between the TG-to-HDL cholesterol ratio and atherosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes.ResultComparison between these two groups indicate that age, systolic blood pressure, TC, TG, LDL and ratio of TG to HDL cholesterol have statistic significant difference(P <0.05); while sex, duration of disease, BMI, DBP, HbA1c, HDL, blood C peptide level, blood insulin level, C-reactive protein haven't(P>0.05). The significant positive correlation between TG, the TG to HDL cholesterol ratio and the carotid intima-media thickness was obtained by the way of Partial Correlation analysis(R=0.174,P=0.015 and R=0.176,P=0.014, respectively), adjust to age and systolic blood pressure. ConclusionThe relationship between the indices which including age, systolic blood pressure, TC, TG, LDL, ratio of TG-to-HDL cholesterol and atherosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes was closely, and the TG, ratio of TG-to-HDL cholesterol most. The indices which including age, systolic blood pressure, TC, TG, LDL, ratio of TG to HDL cholesterol were related to atherosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes, and the TG, ratio of TG to HDL cholesterol had the closest relation.
