Objective: To observe the clinical effect of united Chinese traditional medicine to the period of onset of steroid-resistant asthma (SRA) and its influence on plasma NF-κB and AP-1. To explore the mechanism of united Chinese traditional medicine to SRA and provide new ideas and methods to that. Methods: Sixty patients with SRA were randomly divided into three groups of 20 people each according to treatment order, including Chinese traditional medicine group (traditional Chinese medicine, point application, ventouse and acupuncture), terbutaline group and aminofilina group. They were administered for 18 days respectively. Plasma levels of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB), activator protein -1 (AP-1) were observed before and after treatment. Clinical efficacy was determined through changes in pulmonary function testing, main symptoms and signs. SPSS16.0 software was available for all experimental data statistics.Result: The results showed that main symptoms and signs were significantly improved after treatments of united Chinese traditional medicine, terbutaline and aminofilina. Clinic effect of the united Chinese traditional medicine group was superior to other two western medicine groups. Both western medicine groups had considerable effect. Pulmonary ventilation function was significantly improved (P<0.05). Pulmonary ventilation function of the united Chinese traditional medicine group was superior to other two western medicine groups (P<0.05). And both western medicine groups were no differences (P>0.05). Three groups could reduce the expressions of NF-κB and AP-1 (P<0.05). The Chinese traditional medicine group was better than other two western medicine groups (P<0.05). And both western medicine groups were no differences (P>0.05).Conclusion: The united Chinese traditional medicine can relief the high reaction of spirit way and improve the pulmonary function of SRA patients. The United Chinese traditional medicine can reduce the expressions of NF-κB and AP-1, inhibit the excessive activation of transcription factors and alleviate the airway inflammation. It would be an effective method to treat SRA acute episode through regulating overall aspects of inflammatory factors and improving the patient's condition effectively.
