Objective:To investigate the characteristics of pulmonary function in patients with nasal polyps. To analyse the incidence of bronchial hyperresponsiveness, typical or atypical asthma and abnormal pulmonary function in patients with nasal polyps. Observe whether there are different incidence in BHR,typical or atypical asthma and abnormal pulmonary function between different degree of nasal polyps.Observe whether there are correlation between allergens and pulmonary function in nasal polyps patients.Provided the basis that nasal polyps patients should be tracking pulmonary function to prevent and treat the respiratory disease.Patients and methods:1,Study samples:56 cases with nasal polyps admitted into the Shandong university Qi Lu hospital from March 2010 to June 2010 were enrolled.2,Investigating contents:Patients were inquired about the history of allergy, asthma and disease in lower airway, did sinus CT examination and Lund - Mackay CT grading, endoscopic polyps grading, allergens skin prick test and pulmonary function tests.Pulmonary function tests including: maximal expiratory flow-Volume curve, bronchial provocation test or bronchial diastolic test.3,Groups:According to the endoscopic polyps grading, patients were divided into two groups. According to the Lund - Mackay CT grading, patients were divided into three groups,.According to the result of skin prick test, patients were divided into two groups.Compared each group airway responsieness, asthma incidence and pulmonary function.4,Statistical:All datas were analyzed by SPSS16.0, including T-tests,ANOVA,non-parametric test. P<0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results:1,In 56 cases of patients with nasal polyps, there were 19 patients with bronchial hyperresponsiveness, the incidence rate was 33.93%; there were 26 patients with typical or atypical asthma, the incidence rate was 46.43%; 31 patients with abnormal pulmonary function, the incidence rate was 55.36%.2,In 44 cases of patients without symptom of lower airway, there were 19 patients with bronchial hyperresponsiveness, the incidence rate was 43.18%; there were 19 patients with typical or atypical asthma, the incidence rate was 43.18%; 22 patients with abnormal pulmonary function, the incidence rate was 50.00%.3,In 56 cases of patients with nasal polyps, there were 37 patients which endoscopic polyps grading are 2.In these patients,8 patients with bronchial hyperresponsiveness, the incidence rate was 21.62%; 14 patients with typical or atypical asthma, the incidence rate was 37.84%; 16 patients with abnormal pulmonary function, the incidence rate was43.24%. There were 19 patients which endoscopic polyps grading are 3. In these patients,11 patients with bronchial hyperresponsiveness, the incidence rate was 57.89%; 12 patients with typical or atypical asthma, the incidence rate was 63.16%; 15 patients with abnormal pulmonary function, the incidence rate was78.95%. The score was higher, the incidence rate of BHR,asthma and abnormal pulmonary function was higher. The differences were significant.4,In 56 cases of patients with nasal polyps, there were 10 patients which CT grading are 0-8,1 patients with bronchial hyperresponsiveness, the incidence rate was 10%; 2 patients with typical or atypical asthma, the incidence rate was 20%; 2 patients with abnormal pulmonary function, the incidence rate was 20%. There were 23 patients which CT grading are 9-16,6 patients with bronchial hyperresponsiveness, the incidence rate was 26.09%; 10 patients with typical or atypical asthma, the incidence rate was 43.48%; 13 patients with abnormal pulmonary function, the incidence rate was 56.52%. There were 23 patients which CT grading arel7-24,12 patients with bronchial hyperresponsiveness, the incidence rate was 52.17%; 14 patients with typical or atypical asthma, the incidence rate was 60.87%; 16 cases with abnormal pulmonary function, the incidence rate was 69.57%. The score was higher, the incidence rate of BHR,asthma and abnormal pulmonary function was higher. The differences were significant.5,In 56 cases of patients with nasal polyps,36 patients showed a negative result in skin prick test.11 patients with bronchial hyperresponsiveness, the incidence rate was 30.56%; 15 patients with typical or atypical asthma, the incidence rate was 41.67%; 17 patients with abnormal pulmonary function, the incidence rate was 47.22%.20 patients showed a positive result in skin prick test,8 patients with bronchial hyperresponsiveness, the incidence rate was 40%; 11 patients with typical or atypical asthma, the incidence rate was 55%; 14 patients with abnormal pulmonary function, the incidence rate was 70%. The incidence rate of BHR,asthma and abnormal pulmonary function in patients with positive result was higher than patients with negative result. The differences were significant. Conclusions:In patients with nasal polyps, bronchial hyperresponsiveness incidence rate was 33.93%; typical or atypical asthma incidence rate was 46.43%; abnormal pulmonary function incidence rate was 55.36%.There was a positive correlation between degree of NP and BHR,asthma and abnormal pulmonary function. Therefore, checking and tracking the pulmonary function is very necessary. In addition, the incidence rate of BHR,asthma and abnormal pulmonary function in patients with positive result in SPT was higher than patients with negative result.
