Objective:On study the relation of MRI manifestation and pathological change to evaluate degeneration of intervertebral disc. Offer a basis for diagnosis treatment and prognosis assessment. Methods:NP specimens, preoperative determination of the relative signal intensity of MRI and postoperative measurement of moisture content in samples; statistical analysis of the relative water content and MRI signal intensity correlation; according to the number of cartilage cells, degeneration classification, evaluation MRI imaging changes associated with pathological changes or consistency; determination of non-surgical group and surgical disc height and disc height changes of group comparison and analysis of intervertebral disc height and the degree of correlation. Results:Operation group, the relative signal intensity of MRI were correlated with moisture content, tr value of 2.53, P less than 0.05; operation groupⅡ,Ⅲclass of cartilage-like cells within the intervertebral disc were 24.8±9.3,13.2±8.1, t test indicated twostatistical difference between. Histopathology and MRI evaluation of two methods of lumbar disc degeneration Kappa= 0.72, K values between 0.4-0.75, indicating that the two evaluation methods are consistent; surgical group and nonsurgical group intervertebral disc height and has a high correlation, tr value of 2.27, P <0.05. Conclusion:MRI manifestation was coherence to the pathologic change of the degenerative lumbar disc. MRI can accurately evaluate disc degeneration. MRI signal intensity changes have relation to disc degeneration and the water content. Measured by MRI extent of disc height and disc changes in high degree of consistency, the intervertebral space height can be used as indicator of clinical evaluation, a reasonable choice for the clinical treatment plan, judgment on disease outcome and to explore new treatment method.
