Konjac belongs to the Araceae in nature, is the only herbaceous plant which can synthesis a large number of glucomannan herb. Because of glucomannan (KGM) and its unique characteristics, the konjac become an indispensable and important economic crop, and have a wide range of use in food, agricultural, industrial and medical fields. The long-term natural domestication makes konjac species diversity. The species of konjac are different from each other when there are under different areas and different altitude environment. There are also differences in quality of different species.Firstly, this test selected five different taxonomic konjac, including traditional A. albus, A. konjac, a new species named hunan taro No1breeded in our lab and two wildlife konjac named M—1konjac and L—1konjac. In order to breeding out better varieties which were more suitable for low altitude area in subtropical of cultivation, we compared these five konjac from the parts of biological character, the resistance, coefficient of growth and so on. The results showed as followed:These five kinds of konjac growth period were relatively close, the shortest growth period was M—1konjac; as plant traits, Hunan taro No1was the highest and its growth potential was the strongest, while the A. albus plant was short, Hunan taro No1had the ability that its leaf bifurcate place can grow foliar gas born bulb; Just as tubers traits, hunan taro No.1has the heaviest single tuber and A. konjac, A. albus tubers have many taro flogs. The resistance of different konjac was not identical, amongst which the A.konjac was weak in resisting soft rot disease at high temperature; M—1has a low status of budding rate and L—1is likely to get leaf blight. The best of the comprehensive resistance were hunan taro No1and amorphophallus albus. Moreover, A. albus has the strongest growth potential and hunan taro No.1has the highest yield. This test is also the determination of chemical composition of the substance, we used the five kinds of konjac and the other five kinds of wild konjac to determine their chemical composition, such as chitosan bagan's, glucomannan, moisture, ash, crude fiber, protein and amino acids, crude fat, starch, water soluble sugar and alkaloid content. The most important konjac glucomannan(KGM) contents in those ten konjac were obviously different from each other and the highest was Amorphophallus konjac, whose amount can reach to63.03%, while the lowest was M-b konjac, only32.34%, and others were between40%-50%. Fresh konjac moisture content80%or more, Additionally, the starch content had a huge difference in these kinds of konjac and though other contents were similar.comprehend its biological characteristics and content of chemical composition to a comparative study, on the whole, Hunan taro No1are more suitable for planting in subtropical low altitude area.
