Pennisetum alopecuroides(L.) Spreng is a new kind of ornamental grass with beautiful plant-type and high ornamental value and wide applying prospect which has been used more often at home and abroad in recent years.The study of its breeding way play a directive role for practical production. This paper studies the influence of seed breeding and division propagation of Pennisetum alopecuroides.With the seeds of perennial Pennisetum alopecuroides as research object,we explore and compare their germinate and growth situation in different circumstances.So we can come to the conclusion of the most appropriate conditions for seed germination and growth. By this we can guide seed production,reproduction of Pennisetum alopecuroides; We plant daughter ramet that divide from the perennial ramet in different plant spacing so as to compare their growth condition and morphological differences. So we can guide its application and planting.After the experimental the results are as follows:(1) The best temperature for seed germination is 20℃and suitable interval is 15~20℃,low or high temperature against the germination of seeds;(2) Mixture of peat and perlite (1:1)is the best matrix for germination of Pennisetum alopecuroides seeds while they have rich nutrition good air permeability and water binding capacity;(3) Shallow covering is good for seed germination,and its best covering depth is 5 mm and the optimal zone for germination is 0~15mm, while deep covering inhibits germination;(4) Small tillering coefficient (5 tillerings) of Pennisetum alopecuroides has the largest propagation coefficient which is helpful to gain more seedlings; big tillering coefficient can bring higher survival rate, which is helpful to gain regular emergence;(5) View from foliage effect,we should close planting in small space between plants if high plants are demanded; otherwise, we should plant them in big space between plants and increase tillering coefficient so as to gain plants with big crown width and lush foliage;(6) View from flower and seed yield, along with the increase of space between plants and tillering coefficient, the ornamental effect of Pennisetum alopecuroides improved and the seed yield per plant improved too;(7) The treatment of big tillering coefficient has bigger fresh weight and dry matter content per plant, but the treatment of small space between plants has bigger dry matter content per unit area.
