As the outstanding symbol of garden plant breeding, rose (Rosa hybrida L.) have many advantages such as diversification of varieties, abundance of colors, strong ability of adaptation and widely cultivated. The change of climate condition all over the country and extensive management make different choices of the most suitable cultivars. Wuhan is located in the Jianghan Plain which has unique climate. In summer it gets high temperature and small difference between day and night, in winter it shows much colder and wet.34 modern rose cultivars were collected in Wuhan nursery. The paper studied their comprehensive value and the cutting propagation of some rose varieties, also explored the cross breeding of some rose cultivars. The main conclusions are as follows:(1) According to the problems and concerns in the investigation of modern rose gardening application in Wuhan, The paper established the evaluation index and evaluation system from growth potential, resistance and plant appearance. The result showed that the seven cultivars of'Champagne' 'Victoria' 'Super Star' 'Carola' 'Snow White' 'Fragrant Cloud' 'Xiang Shui Huang' had the best comprehensive performance which were well worth a wide spread application in Wuhan greenbelt; the cultivars of 'Champagne' 'Victoria' 'Super Star' 'Snow White' 'Fragrant Cloud' 'Xiang Shui Huang' 'Princess de Monaco'had better adaptability; moreover, the cultivars of'Cardinal' 'Carola' 'Champagne''Cardinal' exhibited higher ornamentals.(2) Medium, seasons and cultivars had been researched which greatly influenced the cutting propagation. The'Champagne''Carola''Victoria'with higher rooting rate which were evaluated in grade one, could be extended massively. However, they had lower rooting rate when compared to 'Samantha'. The experimental results of three medium indicated that different medium impacted rooting rate, we should choose peat soil to get higher rooting rate and avoid to use garden soil. The results of some cultivars in cutting seasons comparison test showed that callus rate in spring was obviously higher than it in antumn, and little difference in rooting rate. The experiment on cutting propagation confirmed 'Samantha' had the highest rooting rate. The 'Champagne' 'Carola' with higher rooting rate which were evaluated in grade one, could be extended massively. However, they had lower rooting rate when compared to 'Samantha'(3) To make up the deficiency of the Rosa which were open cultivated and enrich the cultivars, some of them were crossed. The experiment designed 27 combinations and hybridized 445 flowers, also got 79 fruits and 172 seeds. Through the fruit-dropping observation, we found that the peak was one-week after the post-hybrid and between the third week and the fifth week. The combinations of 'Champagne' x 'Gold Medal' 'Gold Medal' x 'Champagne' 'Black Lady' x 'Purple Haze' 'Purple Haze' x 'Black Lady' 'Cardinal'x'Xiangshuihuang''Champagne'x'Xiangshuihuang'were considered to have better compatibility.
