Most of electric vehicles use permanent magnet synchronous motors as the drivemotor currently, such as Prius,Camary,Accord,Insight and so on. However, there arestill some problems of permanent magnet synchronous motor in EV, such as themagnetic reluctance, limited adjustable magnetic and magnet demagnetization risks. In recent years, the hybrid excitation synchronous motor has been widespreadattention. Domestic and overseas scholars have proposed many topologies of hybridexcitation synchronous motor. And consequent pole permanent machine (referred toas CPPM synchronous motor) is the most striking one. The field winding and iron areadded in CPPM synchronous motor. The air-gap magnetic field is produced by thecombination of the magneto motive force of permanent magnet and electric excitation. So the air-gap magnetic flux can easily controlled by regulating the excitation current.CPPM synchronous motor is brushless, highly reliable and with no demagnetizationrisk. Otherwise, relative to the permanent-magnet synchronous motors, magnetsreduce consumption by half.In this paper, first of all, the development situation of electric vehicles, hybridexcitation synchronous motor and CPPM synchronous motor are summarizedespecially. And then, the prototype electromagnetic design of50kW CPPMsynchronous motor is made. The structural parameters which have effect the machinefield weakening ability are analyzed and optimized significantly that achieving thedouble regulation of the air-gap magnetic flux. The highest speed of the prototype is12000r/min. Meanwhile, the axial magnetic field can not be neglected in thedemagnetization status. For the reason, the author builds the three-dimensional modelfor finite element analysis of CPPM synchronous motor. The parameters werecalculated and tested, and the no-load test of50kW synchronous motor was made. Finally, the transient performance is simulated by the2D dual motor model.
