Laitan town was formerly known as the Laitan ancient village, located in Hechuanwhich is a nationally famous historical and cultural town. It's a relatively intact ancienttown in the Sichuang-Chongqing area. Its buildings are with typical architectural styleof the Este of Sichuang Province. The ancient town was built by the river and wasdivided into two parts: Laitan upstream and Laitan downstream. The whole town isformed with military buildings, religious buildings, ancestral hall building,civilianhouses and appears as a characteristic union.Nowadays there are Wong City, Two Buddhist temple architectural complex(Buddhism, Tantric), Wenchang Temple (Taoist), ancient Streets, ancient houses andother preserved historic buildings in the town.Laitan ancient town was built in the Tang dynasty, developed in Song dynasty,flourished in the Ming and Qing dynasties, which spans over a thousand years. In thisprocess, its architectural style was affected by the religious culture, the Central Plainsculture, immigration culture, and local customs and traditions and other cultures. Thereare some traditional architecture characters of the Sichuan-Chongqing area in common.Meanwhile, in the unique climate and geo-spatial factors, as well as geographical andcultural factors, it also makes Laitan town an uniqueness. The special grand religiousbackground and superior geographical conditions provide a sufficient condition for theconstruction of the ancient town and have left the town the imprint of the above factors.All that makes Laitan an acient town with a high historical value and research value.This paper firstly outlines the basic thoughts based on clear definition of relevantconcepts. It then sorts out the background of the rise and development of Laitan ancientvillage, followed by analysis of its basic situations, such as natural environment andcultural environment. Therefore, readers can get a general picture of the architecturetype, site selection, location and space form of Laitan ancient village. Meanwhile, the writer hopes to do his bit to create amore harmonious architecture ecology system through the study and deep research ofthe connotations of elements of indigenous buildings.
