With the wide application of information technology,3D design is becoming an inevitable trend and general demand for the future development of power engineering design. Take ZEPDI as an example. After several years of development, an integrated 3D design system has been established, which makes reference to various kinds of domestic and foreign design calculation software and takes VANTAGE integrated project execution as the core. However, due to its uniqueness and imperfection, the present concept of 3D design can hardly carter to traditional design requirement. For instance, there are few studies on the application and secondary development of 3D design which is specific to electric works. The paper, by systematically studying 3D integrated design system, aims to analyze the existing design flow of electrical specialty and design requirements based on the data platform. Besides, it tries to comb and establish related framework, explore VANTAGE PDMS'secondary development and application interface in electrical design. Through communicating with professionals and technical staffs of the AVEVA Company, the paper proposes implanting more built-in function modules and equipping the software with external interface to achieve the localization of VANTAGE PDMS and solve application problems in 3D electric design of power plants. It is hoped that by solving above problems, electrical design will gradually merge into 3D integrated design platform, multi-disciplinary corroborative design will be achieved and finally the application and development of VANTAGE PDMS as well as 3D design technology in electrical design will be promoted.
