Safety relief device is one of the safety accessories to prevent pressure vessel or pipeline from overpressure. The operating performance of safety relief device is very important for pressure vessel or pipeline to prevent overpressure. Bursting disc cascaded with safety valve is a new type and practical safety relief device. Firstly, based on a series of domestic and international standards of safety relief device, this paper managed to match the relationship of operating pressure between safety valve and bursting disc when they were cascaded together as safety relief device. Then, Finite element method was implemented to calculate the bursting pressure of reverse-acting bursting disc on the basis of finite element buckling analysis. The performance and application of bursting disc cascaded with safety valve were studied as well. The main work and research achievements are summarized as below:(1) Based on a series of domestic and international standards of safety relief device, the relationship between design pressure of pressure vessel, design bursting pressure of bursting disc and relief pressure of safety valve was matched well when selecting bursting disc cascaded with safety valve as safety relief device.(2) In this paper, the critical buckling pressure of reverse-acting bursting disc was studied by adopting experimental and numerical method through ANSYS, which indicated that the non-linear buckling method can be used to estimate bursting pressure of reverse-acting bursting disc effectively.a) Explosion test was carried out in bursting disc test equipment at normal temperature in order to obtain bursting pressure of reverse domed bursting disc with knife blades and reverse domed scored bursting disc with different thickness-to-diameter ratios and relative pre-bulging central deflections;b) Non-linear buckling analysis method was used to obtain the critical buckling pressure of reverse domed bursting disc with knife blades and reverse domed scored bursting disc. The numerical simulation results were compared with experimental bursting pressure, the results show that discrepancy between them most were within 8%. This indicated that the non-linear buckling method can be used to estimate bursting pressure of reverse domed bursting disc effectively;c) The influence on critical buckling pressure of similarity criterions material performance, thickness to diameter ratio, dimensionless pre-deflection and normalized notch depths were explored as well.
