How to accurately evaluate the load bearing capacities of old bridges in current economy and technology conditions is a difficult problem to be solved。Besides, we also check and evaluate the new-built bridges when check and evaluate bridges appling, to the the new-built bridges, we hope to comprehend their Quality and master their performance.The main studies and conclusions are as follows:1. Elaborated the purpose and significance of checking and evaluating the bridges, past on the types of checking bridges and the key points of the positions in the bridges ought to check in the general and detailed checking.2. The applicability and disadvantage of the current evaluation methods on the load bearing capacity are summarized and compared. The common bridge structure assessment methods include method based on appearance exploratory, method based on design specification, method based on load testing, and metllod based on expert experience.Now the most widely used method is the methodbased on load testing. Compared with other methods, this method has the advantages of low human factors, the finial result to be stress and strain, persuasiveness strong.3.This paper systematically expounds bridge static load testing and bridge dynamic load testing, the mechanism analysis and assessment methods of bridge static and dynamic load testing. Combined with practical project, showing the bridge structure assessment method based on bridge load testing, using finite element memod, doing accurately analysis and calculation on testing bridge, and analyzing and verifying with memeasured data.Through the load testing,the construction quality and structure stress capacity of the bridge can be tested, the actual bearing capacity of the bridge can be judged and the actual operation condition and the use conditions of the bridge can be determined. It can provide scientific basis for final acceptance and the operation.as well as accumulate important technical information for the bridge of a greater span and more complicated structure in the future.
