Distribution automation is currently the focus of reforming the urban and rural power grids. With the sustained economic development of our society, power users are increasingly demanding high reliability. Distribution automation system is imperative to promote. And the distribution network fault location and recovery is the core issue of distribution automation. Researching of the distribution Fault Location and Restoration algorithm and its improvement is the work of this thesis direction and focus.This thesis first introduces the concept of distribution automation and distribution network topology model and distribution network fault location and recovery issues. Then introduce some existed algorithms of distribution network fault location and recovery. For some inadequacies of the existed algorithms. This paper propose an improved ant colony algorithm to solve the distribution network fault location and recovery issues.Although good application effect of locating faulty section in complex distribution network can be attained by apply ant colony algorithm, however there are also disadvantages such as too long search time and computation time. For this reason, traditional ant colony algorithm should be improved. Firstly, a switching function that can dynamically adapt to topological structure of distribution network is constructed; then a method to set the initial values of ant colony's pheromone and the disturbance rule of the solution are led in; finally the method to apply the improved ant colony in fault section location of distribution network with multi power supplies is determined.In the part of distribution network recovery, this paper propose a fault restoration algorithm based on ant algorithm which need dynamically determine swithch set to restore the fault and integrat the advantage of faster calculate speed in graph theory and the advantage of global optimum in intelligent heuristic algorithm, and consider the treatment under the condtion of multiple faults and load rejection.
