Li-ion battery has better performance than other similar battery, so it is morewidely used in electric vehicles. For the electric vehicles use battery as its power,there is a lot of heat will be produced which damage not only the work of battery butalso security.For electric vehicle project of Chinese Academy of science, this paper willanalyze the temperature of battery in detail. Here are the specific work:1. This paper will establish differential thermal of battery according to theory ofheat and heat transfer, which provide a theoretical basis for calculation of celltemperature. It includes the model in Cartesian coordinate system forrectangular cell, cylindrical coordinate system for cylindrical cell andspherical coordinate. According to finite element theory, the paper willestablish the finite element equation, which provide numerical way tocalculate battery temperature.2. By analyze the internal structure of the battery, the paper establish five solidmodel, and discuss the merits of model. Then the paper use ANSYS tosimulate impact of discharge rate and convection boundary conditions onbattery temperature. In order to determine necessity of design thermalmanagement system for battery pack, the paper also simulate battery packtemperature.3. According to the analysis we have, the paper design thermal managementsystem for battery pack. It includes the choice of single cells (rectangular orcylinder), arrangement of battery pack, combination of battery pack, thermaldesign of battery pack. The thermal design includes: battery pack cooling(gas or liquids), air temperature, battery pack ventilation. The above designhave been proved by software simulation.The paper create battery model and boundary conditions by large number of theoretical calculations, simulate the temperature of battery by ANSYS, then designbattery thermal management system. The Paper also offers useful reference to solvethe Li-ion batteries,exothermic question when used.
