In 19th century, as the city expanding unceasingly and ecological environment deterioration, with "park way" movement as a representative of the greenway network, has become the most notable achievements in the 20th century landscape filed , and has done a lot of the greenway planning and practice combining the landscape ecology theory. To 20th century ,in the global scope, has formed a upsurge on greenway construction motion. The greenway network has become a trend of green space planning.In the 1990s, Chinese scholars also begin to pay close attention to the greenway movement upsurge, through about 10 years of research exploration, they have summarized a part of the related theory, but fail to in-depth study due to the lack of practice . In recent years, urban greenway network planning began in the eastern part of our country where the economy are more developed, presenting a nationwide spread trend. Greenway network construction will become a trend of Chinese green space planning. However, different scales of the greenway network planning research are rarely, at present there is no more mature theoretical method for support.Based on this background, this paper firstly descripes the definition, features, classification, gradation and relevant concepts of the greenways. Secondly, this article discusses how to develop from a constitute unit to network structure, respectively from the region, city, community three scales. Though 3-5 typical cases study of the greenway construction being widely recognized, the paper try to sum up greenway network planning characteristics, construction ways and planning principles in each level. Furthermore, the last part of this paper attempts to summarize the greenway network planning procedures and discusses how to engage with our coutry's urban planning system.
