As a new recreation facility for the new urbanity, theme park, blending enjoyment, entertainment and tourism all in a whole, excels environmentally in many a theme and service. Now an industry well developed into various types, it's been taking the lead of the world tourism.Whereas China sees few profitable examples despite burgeoning at the sheer beginning, due partly to its own complexity, but more to inadequate studies. Therefore, this paper focuses on the theories and methods throughout the design stage, among investment, programming, design, construction, management and renewal, as the full life circle goes.Based upon survey and analysis of major theme parks home and abroad, the author suggests an integrated perception and understanding of the theme park in employing trans-field concept with frame, respectively cultural figure-background gestalt, in psychology. Through case studies positive as well as negative in practice, the site selection and planning, building laying-out and landscape design and relationships of each with architecture are elaborated and explored, and ideas suggested above evidenced as well in case analyses.This paper consists of preface, main body, conclusion and appendix, four parts in total.The preface unfolds the background, meaning and an overview of the current study situation all over the world, and then the studying methods and basic frames employed.The next chapter summarizes the historic setting and developing course of theme park, interprets its conception and tries to tell the trend in general.In the third chapter the cultural essentials and thematic features are based on theme conception, followed with concise explanation.Chapter Four and Five focus on the enhancing influence of planning and landscape upon building laying-out and special forms, observed and analyzed in site selection, laying-out manners, spatial procession, etc. The last chapter extends further to interpret the design strategy and tries to stress the topics. In the end the conclusion points out this study's value and prospect in application.
