Study Of Artistic Expression Of Architectural Structure In Modern Architecture Creation

Contemporary Architecture flourished in China, new structural design concepts and techniques for the construction brought a lot of inspiration and creative thinking into Architecture Design. However, there are also works using unreasonable yet costly structure system with no consideration of historical context which made negative impact on the creativity of today's architectural design. On the other hand, blindly follow foreign architectural masterpieces brought a strong influence on to Chinese market and this phenomenon become academic concern.Therefore, it is necessary to recognize the inherent nature of how the internal structural elements of a building dictate the living expression of the external artistic view. This study is attempted to remind domestic Architects to adhere the sound structural principles during the creative design process to achieve value, quality and performance.In the 21st century, the determining role of structural design in Architectural Creation is more and more evident . Whether it is to achieve new shapes, or to reflect the technical advancement of the building, all require the functionality of the structure. Building is a direct expression of the structural design that we call "structural performance ". So, "how to develop the performance of a structure"becomes the real challenge of the architectural creation.Structural performance is an expression of both technical and artistic beauty. "Technical"and"Artistic"are often conflict yet inseparable. The integration and utmost balance of the two is the aorta of "structural art"at any era. Contemporary Architecture will ultimately depend on the architect's ability to craft coherent structure in order to achieve a high degree of artistic creation and expression.This study consists four parts:PartⅠ: Introduction of the Theory and Viewpoints in different parts of the world, the performance of structure and the structure of the basic concepts and definitions of the theory, and from the characteristics of historical times, the values of civilization, the human manifestation of symbolic meaning and contribution of art to explore the meaning of the value of the structure and creative content.PartⅡ: Following the trajectory of the historical development to describe and analyze contemporary art trends and characteristics. From the viewpoints of structural techniques and artistic expression to illustrate the creative thoughts of classic creations and it's positive contribution to uplifting of structural design and expressional development.PartⅢ: Through a case study to analyze and compare modern architectural creations for artistic expression of structural techniques and its implementation. PartⅣ: From the understanding of modern artistic expression of structural creation, this study proposed the operational principle of"Expression oriented Structural techniques". Organically integrate and balance the artistic expression and structural techniques to avoid polarize either one.In conclusion, this study illustrated the essence of"Technology based expression and expression oriented techniques". Hopefully this research can inspire and make positive contribution to the applicability and practicality of the Artistic and Techniques Integration in Architectural Creation.
