The interaction between people and the environment produces behaviors, therefore spaces are designed to meet the behavioral needs, However, in order to understand the interaction between behavioral patterns of users and the environment-related factors, it is necessary to observe acting behaviors and conduct interview surveys to clarify the subjective consciousness that designer have devised in advance, and then review the effectiveness of the space as well as create built environment which more satisfy users' behavioral needs. Therefore, the study of interactive behaviors with park spaces is significant to the optimization of parks'spatial organization.Firstly, through an extensive literature review, the researcher understood the history and development of research on urban spaces identifying the role that urban parks take in the comprehensive open spaces of urban spaces. Moreover, based on the discussion about the overview and comparison of environment-behavior research done domestically and abroad, it is found that the environment-behavior research will have a great potential to provide recommendations about the direction of developing non-material designing for urban parks; In the meanwhile, through field survey and mapping typical site, this research investigated and analyzed the spatial structure of Huanhuaxi park in Chengdu. The researcher used trace observation, interviews to record users'behaviors in the park, and further studied its spatial structure and organization on the level of environment-behavioral, Finally, the research result will develop a benchmark for improving the design of urban parks and similar ones.According to the investigation, several conclusions can be established as follows:(1) It is possible to study the spatial organization and structure of the park from the level environment-behavior research. By the method of trace observation, the research analyzed types of spaces whose pass rate are more than 50% in 15 landscape spaces of Huanhuaxi Park. If is concluded that there are six types of users'activities including the use of main plaza, main Road, the area around Cang Lang Lake and Du Fu Cao Tang as well as Wan Shu Hill and performances.(2) The essence of landscape environment of Huanhuaxi park reflects the concept of whole landscape design. The park's environment highlights the image of Chinese poetry cultural centers by virtue of the fame of Du Fu Cao Tang. The spatial organization of the park outlines three core areas of Wan Shu Hill, Cang Lang Lake and Bai Lu Zhou along the creeks. Through the integration of forest landscape, waterfront landscape and wetlands landscape, the landscape pattern of the park created a natural, sustainable habitat. The research result met the design guidelines, fully reflected the park's design concept, had rich and various landscape content, and displayed a unique culture and urban image.(3) Chengdu Huanhuaxi park had a good spatial organization. Both of the field survey and a typical site mapping can show that Huanhuaxi park had a spatial appropriate movement and complete sequences of the landscape:The landscape developed from the beginning, knot, opening to end owned the desirable density. The three-dimensional space was intermittent and fluctuant, and the seasonal appearance, colors and layout of plant landscape demonstrated the unique ecological rule that forests and wetland harmonized. Overall, a good organizational structure of a park space, has characteristics such as strong clustering in the distribution of spots, higher orderly system and compact spatial structures.(4) The preference analysis of different users is an important indicator that environment-behavior research cares about human beings. The research analysis indicated that users in different age groups have different ecological requirements to spaces. For teenagers, the preference of using spaces is relatively extreme. In contrast, young and middle-aged people prefer to use scattered spaces. Plus, aged people have obvious consciousness of choosing appropriate environment based on their different conditions and needs. (5) The motivation for people visiting parks are divided into two groups which are physical and psychological. From the survey results, the more frequently users visit parks, the more diverse motivations they have. People who initially come to the garden have a sole motivation for the purpose of visiting and studying. With the higher frequency they visit parks, they will have more requirements to the environment. The various motivations mainly include three characteristics as follows:diversity, hierarchy and crossed.
