The Investigation And Research On Space Of Shanxi Style Residences In Hohhot And Baotou Region In Inner Mongolia

The residences in Inner Mongolia have already not be Mongolianyurts which are well known by people. Affected by famers who migrated to western part in China and Shanxi merchants who went to Inner Mongolia, large areas in Inner Mongolia, especially Hohhot and Baotou region ,has become a geographical characteristics which is called Shanxi style residences.On the one hand, studies on Shanxi style residences in Hohhot and Baotou region of Inner Mongolia can improve the living conditions of poor farmers that live in residences built by themselves who migrated to Inner Mongolia; on the other hand, can protect the residences built by Shanxi merchants who went to Inner Mongolia for business, such as Qiao zhiyong who came from Qi County in Shanxi Province. In some ways, "authenticity" contained in these business residences has more important value than merchants'compound in Shanxi.Based on a large amount of mapping and investigation, this paper clarifies the background, value and significance of Shanxi style residences in Hohhot and Baotou region, and analyzes the research situation at home and abroad, proposes detailed framework for the study. And then, we define the concept of Shanxi style residences in Hohhot and Baotou region, and propose new methods for classification. At the same time, the paper discusses the process of formation and evolution on Shanxi style residences in Hohhot and Baotou region, summarizes its characteristics and the different stages of development ,and analyzes the regular pattern of its evolution.Then, the paper divides the Shanxi style residences in Hohhot and Baotou region into two categories based on previous field survey and theoretical analysis. One class is the residences built by poor farmers who immigrate to Inner Mongolia from Shanxi; another is the residences built by Shanxi merchants who went to Inner Mongolia for business. At the same time, we comprehensively describe and analyze their situation, especially more than 30 important blocks, courtyards and temples.The article takes Hekou village called land and river wharf in Tuoketuo county, Hohhot as an example of adobe farm houses of Shanxi style residences, and takes Baotou as an example of residences for business. It explores village and building space of Shanxi style residences in Inner Mongolia from region, climate adaptation of humanism, constitution of population, function space, materials, technology, defensive, cultural assimilation and other aspects. The study is innovative about Shanxi style residences in Inner Mongolia. Then we compare the Shanxi style residences in Hohhot and Baotou region with the prototype constructions in Shanxi province.themelivesFinally, the paper overall summarizes the characteristics of space and construction of Shanxi style residences in Hohhot and Baotou region in Inner Mongolia. Based on researches and practices on adobe Shanxi style residences when the author was a teacher in Inner Mongolia University of Technology a few years ago, the article preliminarily explores transformation and re-using on it. Taking summation of the classification on more than 20 Successful transformation cases as the basis, the paper proposes suggestions about protection, development and reuse of business Shanxi style residences, and finally makes prospect on the development and the future of residences .
